Scout is the daughter of Atticus. The story is told from her main point of view, but in third person. She is seen as a tomboy who believes in the good of people. Her curiosity and moral compass allow her to truly value justice.
Atticus is seen as the moral compass throughout the book and insitilled many traits into his children Scout and Jem. He is a lawyer and is defending Tom Robinson during his trial using his intellagence and justice influenced compss he fights to teach not only his children but readers many lessons throughout the novel.
Jem Finch is Scout's brother. He usually is seen at Scout's side and follows scout through her journeys, even though he is sidetracked during the trial.
Boo, is a man who stays in his home and becomes a mystery to the whole town, especially to scout. While many make assumptions and make theories, he later on saves scout and is the book's symbol of the mockingbird.
Maudie lives next door and makes a large impact throughout the story on Scout. She shares like Atticus much knowledge on justice and passes it on to the children.
Bob is the father of Mayella, who accuses Tom of raping her. Bob is most of the time drunk and is part of a poor family. His daughter is abused by her him and is forced by her father to fabricate this story against Tom.
Tom is the innocent black man accused of raping Mayella. He is represented by Atticus and is another symbol of the mocking bird.
Calpurnia is the cook of the Finch family. She shares knowledge about injustices and is seen the closest to a mother figure
The Mocking Bird symbol is one that Harper Lee is most famous for creating. It's to symbolize the innocence that a mocking bird portrays and to kill a mocking bird is to kill of the innocence.
